Chapter 341: Corrective Measures
Having heard the frank opinions of the Chivalric Order members, I immediately headed to the training grounds to find Dee.
“Sei! Sei! Fun! Ha!”
The wind howled, and trees situated a short distance away swayed violently. I could hear Dee’s shouts in sync with the sound of the wind, causing me to involuntarily stop in my tracks. The training ground was built to be spacious, and in the very center of it, Dee was practicing his swings. Other knights were training as well, but I felt they were completely intimidated by Dee’s practice swings.
I always think this, but Dee’s practice swings are clearly not normal. Lord Talga and Ortho are amazing when they swing a sword seriously, but I think Dee is on a whole other level. Incidentally, his stamina is also abnormal. If an infectious disease were to spread and wipe out the Seatoh Chivalric Order, we might just execute a strategy where Dee defends both Seatoh Village and Fortress City Murcia by running back and forth between them every day. Dee looks like he would actually do it, too.
When a man with such abnormal stats conducts training, perhaps it is simply unbearable for ordinary people.
“Dee!”
When I called out to him, Dee—who was looking like a wind god—stopped his swings and immediately ran over.
“Ooh, Lord Van! What is the matter!?”
Seeing Dee’s eyes sparkling, I made sure to preface my statement.
“I didn’t come here to train, okay?”
“Mumu! That is a shame! For now, how about just one hundred practice swings and a run for some exercise……”
“I said I’m not doing it!”
“That is a shame! Hahaha!”
After that exchange, Dee laughed heartily, showing his teeth. While giving a wry smile at his unchanging demeanor, I casually brought up the topic of training.
“Come to think of it, the training looks really tough lately. Is everything alright? Arb and Law aren’t on the verge of death, are they?”
I gently brought up the two Knight Commander candidates to gauge the situation. At that, Dee crossed his arms and the corners of his mouth lifted.
“Hohoh! Indeed, I am having those two undergo slightly more grueling training so that they will be ready to become Knight Commanders at any time! Did one of them perhaps whine about it?”
“No, strangely enough, even when they look like they are about to die, neither of them complains. But looking from afar, I got worried about whether they were okay.”
“Fumu! That is a good thing! Both of them are working very hard! If they hear that you are concerned about them, Lord Van, they will likely work even harder!”
Saying that, Dee laughed aloud. It seems Arb and Law are being made to train even more intensely than the others. Since they aren’t complaining, I suppose they can manage? No, many of the others are new recruits who have only been knights for around a year. It might be a mistake to group them with Arb and Law, who were knights originally.
“It would be a problem if they collapsed, so do you want to try lowering the training level a little? Or is it fine as it is?”
When I asked, Dee showed signs of thinking for a moment.
“Fumu…… Let me see. Currently, the training is divided into five stages. There is the Special Class training that I and Lord Talga perform. The Super Advanced training that Knight Commander candidates like Arb and Law undergo. The Advanced training for Khamsin and the regular knights. The Intermediate training for you, Lord Van, and the rookie knights. And the Lower training for only the fresh recruits who have been here less than half a year.”
“I was in Intermediate training!? Even though it’s that hard!?”
“Since you have limited time to devote to training, Lord Van, the session is short, but the density is doubled. If you were to do a proper half-day of training, the density would be halved, making it normal training.”
“So you were cramming it in……”
I was shocked to learn this startling fact from Dee’s answer. It was supposed to be Intermediate training, but if he was cramming it in and increasing the density, wouldn’t that make it Advanced training or higher? Indeed, it was strange that I was able to put up a good fight against other knights in mock battles. To think some knights get shocked by that.
“By the way, do you review the training content?”
“Reviewing the training…… Let me see. I believe we do it roughly once a month.”
“Oh, that’s amazing.”
I knew about Dee’s passion for training, but it is admirable that he properly reviews it regularly. I praised him with that in mind, but Dee shook his head with a serious face.
“Ideally, I would like to divide the stages a bit more for instruction, but we lack the manpower. Thanks to Lord Talga coming here, we can now perform formation drills and basic tactical training more thoroughly than before, but I believe there is still much to learn. Well, even so, the stamina and swordsmanship of all the knights have improved significantly.”
“Heh, is that so? Everyone is growing properly then.”
I nodded repeatedly, feeling like a parent watching over their children. Then, Dee laughed proudly and pointed at the knights who were training.
“El, over there, has been in the Chivalric Order for a year. It has been six months since he moved from Lower to Intermediate training, but he is serious enough to practice swings in his free time like this. It is a bit early, but I am thinking of letting him experience Advanced training.”
“Heeh! That’s amazing!”
When I said that, Dee nodded with a happy smile.
“Hahaha! Eddie, who is training near him, has just started Intermediate training, but his stamina has more than doubled. It is said that those who run well grow well. Then there is a man named Leri in the back; he has been here for two years but has not yet been able to advance to Advanced training.”
“Heh, really? Is he okay?”
Worried, I looked at the young man who appeared to be Leri, training in the back. Dee laughed and nodded at that.
“He is earnest at heart! He seems to struggle with split-second judgments, but people like that tend to grow rapidly once they grasp the knack of it. Furthermore, those who struggle to improve their skills spend that much more time worrying and thinking through the process. He will become a good instructor later on. in that sense, Leri is a knight I look forward to, even if it takes a long time!”
Saying that, Dee shook his shoulders and laughed happily. Even though there are quite a number of people now, Dee watches each and every knight closely. He is a strict but kind, good teacher.
“……I see. Alright, in that case, I think I’ll leave it to you, Dee. Still, the effort everyone is putting in is amazing. If you don’t mind, please tell me about the other people next time.”
Judging that things were fine after hearing Dee’s educational policy, I told him so. Dee nodded deeply with a smile.
“Ooh! That is a happy request! Very well, I shall compile a report on every knight’s situation and their future prospects! It will be good study for Arb and Law as well! Hahaha!”
“Eh? No, I don’t think I need a report…… If you do that, another massive amount of documents will……”
“No, no, please do not worry! It will only be about a thousand pages! Hahaha!”
Thus, as a result, I ended up increasing my own workload.
