- Chapter 110: Let's Modify a Carriage for Exploration
What would be good as a base for exploring the undeveloped lands? I want something more solidly built than a tent. While thinking about various things, I suddenly remembered my previous life. That’s it, let’s modify a carriage.
I used to think the carriages with expanded interiors in the Atelier series games I played in my previous life looked fun. I’ll store the carriage in my storage, teleport with the horses, and then bring the carriage out once we arrive in the undeveloped lands. Horses will surely be surprised by teleportation, so I need to practice beforehand and take horses that have gotten used to it.
Since they are the Order’s horses, they are used to magic, so I wonder if they will be better than ordinary horses. Even if I build a carriage, it would be trouble if there are no horses to pull it, so first I must secure the horses. I immediately consulted with Knight Commander Liam.
“Hmm, horses that won’t be surprised by teleportation, is it?” “Yeah. I thought the Order’s horses might be used to magic.” Liam smiled wryly. “Well, they are trained. But even the Order’s horses would likely be surprised if they were teleported by magic.”
“I suppose that’s true.” Just as I was thinking it might be impossible, Liam thought for a while and came up with an idea. “Let’s see. Let’s select a few smart horses and a few bold horses. Then let’s actually try teleporting and see if they are okay.” “Thank you, Liam.”
When we went to the Knight Order’s stables, Liam selected two smart horses and two bold horses for me. Knights who were free brought the horses out from the stables to the training grounds. Well then, let’s give it a try.
Let’s start with the smart horses. Since a stallion and a mare were selected, we’ll start with the stallion. Liam accompanies me in case the horse rampages. I have Liam grab the hem of my clothes, and while stroking the horse with one hand, I activate Teleportation Magic.
When we teleported to the opposite side of the wide training grounds, the serious-looking stallion seemed to panic and reared up. Liam calmed him down, but this horse might be tough.
Next is the smart mare’s turn. I feel like this horse is looking at us thoughtfully from the other side of the training grounds as she walks over. When we teleported in the same way as before, she shivered a bit, but she didn’t rampage. This horse seems okay.
Then we tried the bold horses. These were also a stallion and a mare. The mare started rampaging upon teleporting, but the stallion just looked around his surroundings and remained unmoved.
“Thank you, Liam. I’ll take these two.” “It is good that we found them.” With this, the prospect of horses is settled.
Now, let’s build the carriage. Since Letty and Sophie are coming too, I want to make it so we can rest as comfortably as possible. I’ll make the frame of the carriage out of wood, and cover the exterior with Mithril enchanted with four resistances: Slash Resistance, Pierce Resistance, Impact Resistance, and Magic Resistance.
I expand the interior of the carriage using Space Magic. First, there is a meeting room with a table and chairs, and opening a door from there leads to a dining area and two bedrooms with beds. I separated the bedrooms by gender and placed four beds in each, one more than necessary. Although I plan for day trips for the exploration, this is so we’ll be fine even if we end up staying overnight in the undeveloped lands.
Oliver procured the materials for the furniture to be placed inside the carriage. When I told him I wanted some slightly nice wood, he said the workshop is making a large profit so it’s fine, and gathered high-quality materials for me.
I use Walnut for the chairs. It is a dark brown timber, but as the color fades with age, it should turn into a gentle reddish-brown. I made the table out of Mahogany. The wood grain has a sheen, and the “ribbon stripe” pattern came out well, making it look like it shines when light hits it. It looks like the high-class furniture I only yearned for but had no connection with in my previous life.
Oliver also ordered a tea set from a famous workshop in the Royal Capital and bought good tea leaves. For snacks, I’ll bring baked sweets made at the workshop’s cafe.
I think it’s comfortable even in this state, but this time I will modify it further. The key is Magic Stones. Since I received permission from His Majesty to use Magic Stones for the development of the undeveloped lands, I think it’s okay to use them for the exploration carriage.
First, I selected a smaller one from among the purified Magic Cores and poured fire magic into it to create a Fire Magic Stone. Then, I make a bath heater that warms water using the Fire Magic Stone. Since it’s a simple construction where water just circulates inside the heater, I was able to make it without much trouble.
However, the first one I made got too hot, so I adjusted it by wrapping the Magic Stone in materials that don’t conduct heat easily. I create it while imagining taking a breather after sweating from exploring in a hot place. After trying a few times, I managed to make what I had imagined.
I expand the back of the dining area to create a bathroom and a changing space. Since water can be produced with Life Magic, all that’s left is to make a bathtub and a washing area, attach the heater, and it’s complete. For the bathtub, let’s line it with marble, which was popular in the Knight dormitories.
