- Chapter 116: Monster Hunting in the Great Grasslands
After eating lunch, we moved through the great grasslands in the carriage again. Gilbert sat on the driver’s seat, while the rest of the members drank tea inside the carriage. Sophie placed her teacup on the table and let out a sigh. “It is peaceful. I feel like I might just relax completely.” “It is just as Sophie says.” Letty, who was sitting on a walnut chair and drinking tea elegantly, smiled. “Will, what are we doing after this?”
“Let’s see. Since we probably won’t find new plants in the great grasslands, we could teleport further south to where the black soil is, but would it be alright if we hunted some monsters? I think it would make things easier for the people coming later.” “You mean for the Knights and Elves coming to develop the undeveloped lands. That is very considerate of you, Master.” As Theo says, once preparations are complete, the development of the undeveloped lands will begin. Our Knights and the Elves are strong, but it’s better if there are fewer monsters.
In places where people live, Knights defeat monsters that come out of the Sea of Trees, but since no one defeats them here, the number of monsters in the undeveloped lands has increased. However, if we defeat the monsters now, since they won’t suddenly pour out of the Sea of Trees in large numbers, the overall number will decrease. Letty and Sophie defeated a variant Magic Dog just by themselves, and this party has somewhat excessive combat power, so I thought it would be good to hunt as many monsters as possible for the sake of the Knights and Elves coming later.
“I see. That sounds fine.” “I will do my best too. I have only fired magic once so far.” “Everyone, thank you. This will help my clansmen who will eventually come to this land.” Luna bowed her head to everyone.
“Lucelina-san, please raise your head. My father, Earl Cardiff, pays respect to you all for protecting the World Tree for the sake of humanity. I myself am happy if I can be of even a little use to you.” “It is just as Sister Letty says. Hearing the Elder‘s stories of the past, I truly thought we should be more grateful to the Elves.”
“We, the Fairchild Margrave Family Knights, also hold respect for the Elves who have protected the World Tree. We have been discussing how to minimize the danger to the Elves when developing the undeveloped lands.” “See, Luna. The humans of this land are trustworthy people.” “Everyone, thank you so much. It is just as Theo says. To think I could meet such trustworthy people… I am glad I left the Sea of Trees.” “I’m happy to hear you say that, Luna. Now then, shall we head out to hunt monsters?”
Monsters are more numerous in places closer to the Sea of Trees. Therefore, we first teleported to a location within the great grasslands closer to the Sea of Trees. From there, once Luna detected monsters, we drove the carriage in that direction. Ria also moved to the driver’s seat to prepare for monsters.
We proceeded through the great grasslands while hunting monsters. As expected, there are more monsters closer to the Sea of Trees. However, Ria and Gil immediately defeated the Magic Dogs and Magic Wolves that appeared in groups of a few. Both of them are strong. After proceeding for a while, a large pack of Magic Dogs appeared. There seemed to be over ten of them.
“Please leave this to me.” When we stopped the horses and stepped out of the carriage, Theo readied his staff and activated Earth Magic. Although Theo usually wields a short spear often, it seems he will fight mainly with magic this time. Then, a large pitfall opened up in front of the pack of Magic Dogs running toward us. Unable to avoid the suddenly opening hole, the majority of the pack fell into it.
“This is Pit magic, isn’t it? Even so, the scale is amazing.” As Luna was surprised, Theo closed his eyes and concentrated. The air around Theo began to be faintly dyed the color of earth. Since when did Theo come to be clad in Magic Light as well?
“Earth Spike!” Theo chanted an intermediate Earth spell. The screams of the Magic Dogs echoed through the surroundings. It seems he made spikes grow from the ground inside the pitfall.
“Theo-san, that’s quite a nasty spell.” “Gil, we have no time for idle chatter.” Several Magic Dogs that escaped the pitfall came toward us. However, Ria and Gil, who had drawn their swords to intercept them, cut them down.
Luna spoke to Theo as he returned to the carriage. “Theo, the power of your magic has increased tremendously.” “Yeah, it increased before I knew it. Maybe my abilities went up when I became an Apostle. I think this power is also thanks to Master.” No, no, it is thanks to Theo‘s ability and hard work.
As we proceeded further, a pack of Magic Wolves appeared this time. There seemed to be nearly ten of them. “This time, I shall…” Saying that, Luna stepped out of the carriage and readied her staff. When Luna concentrated, the surrounding air was dyed a deep blue. “As expected of Lucelina-san, that is strong Magic Light.” My sister was impressed.
“Tempest!” When Luna activated the advanced Wind Magic, a violent gale raged, and the Magic Wolves, which should have had considerable weight, were lightly blown into the air. It has more power than Sophie‘s Tempest that I saw in the Sea of Trees before. It seems her reputation as a high-ranking power holder even among Elves is not just for show. The Magic Wolves vanished one after another, leaving behind black smoke. Ria and Gil defeated the few that survived.
Yeah, everyone is strong. I thought about debuting my Magic Gun, but it seems there is no turn for me. I am a Producer, not a Hero, so it’s better if I don’t have a turn in combat, anyway.
