Chapter 158: The Creation
I used to follow the Elder’s lead through the hollow of the giant tree that connects to the Elven Sanctuary, but this time, I followed behind Luna. Upon emerging into the Garden of the World Tree, the blooming flowers welcomed us as they always did.
“Ah, this place is truly beautiful.” Oliver, who loves all things beautiful, was deeply moved. The very air felt pure and cleansing.
In the Garden of the World Tree, I took out the purified Mana Core that I had stored away with magic. “Master, is that a purified Mana Core?” “Yes. I’m not sure why, but I have a feeling this will be useful.”
“It is surely the guidance of the World Tree.” Luna was likely right. Even when I create magic stones, I am guided by the World Tree.
As I approached the World Tree holding the purified Mana Core, I strangely understood exactly what I needed to do. Sensing that they would be necessary, I took out some timber and glass I had kept in my storage.
Then, I visualized the image that naturally rose in my mind. The purified Mana Core would serve as its heart. I imagined a form that, though small, would work hard and be active in the development of the undeveloped lands.
When I activated my Production Skill, magic power welled up from deep within my body, gathering at the tips of my fingers until a beautiful magic circle surfaced above my palm. The purified Mana Core, timber, and glass were enveloped in a warm light.
When the light faded, something resembling a wooden doll had been born. Unlike an ordinary doll, it stood up and came tottering toward me.
“Master, what on earth is this?” “It’s a Wood Golem.” “A Golem? It’s my first time seeing one. I heard from Grandmother that the ancient Alchemic Mages used to create them.”
“Indeed. Long ago, great alchemists employed Golems, but that Alchemic Magic has been lost for an age.” “Oh, so you’ve become able to use lost Alchemic Magic. As expected of you, Lord William.”
It seems the magic I awakened to this time is Alchemic Magic for creating Golems. The Wood Golem has a smooth wooden surface with a visible grain, giving it the atmosphere of an old-fashioned woodworking project; it feels strangely nostalgic. It has two round glass eyes on its face, which are quite cute.
When I instinctively said, “Nice to meet you,” it surprisingly nodded back. It seems it understands speech. “My, it’s so clever to understand Lord William’s words. And how adorable!” Luna hugged the Wood Golem.
The Wood Golem stands a little over a meter tall, about the height of a ten-year-old child. Seeing it look a bit bewildered while being hugged was also quite charming.
After testing various things, I discovered that the Wood Golem understands human speech and can perform simple tasks exactly as instructed. Furthermore, it is unexpectedly strong.
Everyone was astonished when the Golem demonstrated its strength by lifting a heavy log. “It can carry something that heavy?” “Lord William, this will be a true asset for the development of the undeveloped lands.”
As Oliver said, these small but powerful Golems will surely be active in developing the frontier. Indeed, the Alchemic Magic to create Golems was the magic to solve the labor shortage.
I had been using purified Mana Cores as materials for magic stones, but I always felt they held some other hidden secret. Now that it has become the core material for a Golem, I finally understand why.
“Mana Cores are born from the power of Darkness, condensing the negative emotions of people. They serve as the cores for monsters, yet through the power of the World Tree, they are purified to become cores for Golems that help people.” The Elder looked deeply moved.
“Yes, it is truly the work of the Savior.” “Master’s Production Skill is the power of Light that opposes the power of Darkness.” Honestly, I think Luna and Theo praise me too much.
Using the purified Mana Cores I had on hand, I tried creating one more Golem. It consumes a fair amount of magic power, but I could probably make several dozen in a single day.
After thanking the Elder and Luna, I decided to return to the workshop. Wondering how to transport the Golems, I tested it out and found I could store them with magic.
I suppose I can store them because Golems aren’t living creatures. Though, I’ve been able to store plants and plastic worms, so some living things work. I can’t store dogs or cats, so it seems animals are generally off-limits.
At any rate, being able to store them is convenient for development in the vast undeveloped lands. By using this in combination with Teleportation Magic, I can immediately bring Golems to any place where “manpower” is needed. It seems I’ll be able to respond quickly even when infrastructure like roads is destroyed by disasters.
