- Chapter 159: Let’s Create Various Golems
After returning from the Elven forest to my room in the workshop, I headed to the basement with Theo and Oliver. I kept the Golems in my magical storage. While everyone on the workshop staff is trustworthy, I felt it was better not to let the existence of the Golems be known just yet.
If I were to report that I had created Golems capable of understanding human speech, I can easily imagine Father and His Majesty wearing exasperated expressions and immediately classifying the information as a state secret.
I want the workshop staff to continue making things with a peaceful state of mind. Sometimes it’s better not to know secrets, so I intend to keep quiet about the Golems, at least for the time being.
In the workshop basement, I experimented to see if various materials kept in the warehouse could be used for the Golems. Theo and Oliver helped me by searching for and carrying materials.
Since a fair number of purified Mana Cores are kept in the warehouse, I decided to create several types of Golems. First, I discovered that in addition to wood, iron could be used as material for a Golem’s body.
Using iron is much sturdier than wood. I suppose a Golem with an iron body should be called an Iron Golem.
I also found that plastic could be used as a material instead of glass. I feel that plastic eyes are lighter and less likely to break.
Next, I experimented by changing the types of purified Mana Cores used for the heart. Using the core left by a Magic Wolf—the most common type—resulted in a small Golem like the one I created in the Elven Sanctuary. Using a core from a Magic Boar resulted in a slightly larger Golem, about 1 meter 30 centimeters tall. A Magic Deer core produced a Golem roughly 1 meter 50 centimeters in height.
Well then, I wondered what would happen if I used a core left by a Unique Species. When using a purified Unique Species Mana Core, I felt that I should use not just iron, but Mithril as a material as well.
As I activated my Production Skill, magic power was drained from my body in a massive surge. It felt as if many times more mana was being taken compared to a normal Golem. Then, the magic circle floating above my palm glowed green. I felt as if the World Tree was guiding me, even from a distance. After the warm light enveloping the materials faded, a Golem taller than me appeared. Its eyes, it seemed, were made of Mithril.
“Nice to meet you, Master.” “”Eh?”” Both Theo and Oliver were startled.
“Can you speak human language?” “Yes. I can understand Master’s words, and I can also speak.” “Incredible, Master!” “This is, how should I put it… a form of crafting that approaches the very mystery of life,” Oliver remarked. Honestly, I’m just as astonished.
The Golems created with a Unique Species Mana Core as the heart were not only capable of speech and possessed high intelligence, but their physical functions were also superior to other Golems. Furthermore, it appeared they could issue commands to other Golems. While I can only give simple instructions, this Golem seemed capable of giving much more detailed orders to the standard Golems.
“This Golem is something entirely different from the Iron Golems. What should we call it?” “How about Legatus Golem?” Oliver suggested.
“It’s an unfamiliar word, but it sounds good. What does it mean?” “Legatus is Latin for a deputy or a commander of an army.”
“Legatus… Since this Golem can convey my instructions to the others and move them effectively, it does have the feel of a deputy. Yes, I think it’s a good name.” “As expected of Oliver-san.”
It seems Oliver, having mastered the Akashic Records, is greedily absorbing knowledge from my old world. Occasionally, like this time, he possesses knowledge of my old world that even I didn’t know. “Alright, let’s call it a Legatus Golem.”
Then, as usual, I had Theo try to see if he could replicate it. Theo‘s “Replication” is a powerful skill that can create even items using precious materials—like the leaves of the World Tree—out of thin air.
However, Theo was unable to replicate the Legatus Golem. Apparently, the Legatus Golem is an exception that cannot be copied. I suppose that shows just how special of an existence it is.
