Chapter 170: To Woodpole
When we teleported to Woodpole and arrived at the Baron’s mansion, Baron Woodpole, having heard the contents of the letter I left behind from Mabel, was waiting for us.
“Lord William, I heard the situation from my daughter. I appreciate your sentiments, but it is dangerous, so please return to Northernford.”
“We will escape using Teleportation Magic if it gets dangerous, so we will be fine. Please let us help buy time until reinforcements arrive.”
“What? The legendary Teleportation Magic! The people behind you were not there a moment ago. Did you perhaps bring them here with Teleportation Magic?”
The Baron looked at my companions standing behind me.
“That is correct.”
“Lord William, you possess amazing Production Skills, yet you can use such magic as well? And to have even Elves with you… you are like a legendary Hero.”
“I am neither a Hero nor a Sage, but I can use special magic, and I have companions who help me.”
My companions nodded in agreement.
“Then, may I ask for your help? My house has few knights, and honestly speaking, I would be extremely grateful for your assistance.”
“Leave it to us. My companions and I have a fair amount of actual combat experience against monsters in the southern undeveloped lands.”
“That is reassuring.”
“Also, I brought armor imbued with traits, so please distribute them to your knights.”
His Majesty and Father have told me that the Mithril equipment imbued with four traits is classified, and stock is low. However, equipment imbued with two traits is not classified, and I have been told I can use it as I see fit.
“My word, armor imbued with traits? But is it alright for us to borrow such expensive armor? We might damage it.”
“It is fine. I imbued them myself, so it didn’t cost me anything.”
“You can use Enchantment Magic as well? I thought Lord William‘s Production Skill was amazing, but it seems it is actually beyond my imagination.”
Baron Woodpole is a noble who understood the merits of the Production Skill early on, evidenced by his sending his daughter Mabel to apprentice with me. It makes me happy to have such a Baron say I exceeded his expectations.
Soon, the knights summoned by the Baron entered the room.
“You lot, Lord William is lending us armor with two resistances.”
Cheers erupted from the knights.
“Really? With this, we can block monster claws and fangs.”
“We can do this, even against a herd.”
I’m glad the knights’ morale has risen.
I had them put on gear that seemed to fit their bodies, and I used my Production Skill to make minor adjustments. At times like this, the Production Skill is very convenient. Theo and Mabel helped with the adjustments as well.
Afterward, when we asked the Baron about the situation, it seemed the next wave of monsters was already approaching Woodpole.
Apparently, the monsters are attacking in several waves. It is good news that the thousand monsters aren’t attacking as a single solid mass.
Baron Woodpole is injured, but he insisted that he could not stay in the rear and would not budge.
Suspecting this might happen, I handed him the Mithril armor imbued with four resistances that I had brought along.
“This is… isn’t this Mithril armor? I cannot. Borrowing something like this would surely cause trouble for Lord William.”
“No, please use it. I have also obtained my father’s approval to give you Mithril armor if you insisted on standing on the battlefield despite your injuries.”
“If something happens to you, Baron, May will be sad.”
Sophie joined in to persuade the Baron, and he finally agreed to use it.
“Lord William, Sophie, I truly don’t know how to thank you.”
“Mabel, I consider the workshop staff to be family. It is only natural to do what I can during a family crisis.”
“May, we are friends, aren’t we? No thanks are needed.”
“Thank you, Lord William, Sophie.”
Mabel wiped her tears.
A short while later, once preparations were complete, we sortied along with the Baron and his knights.
We rode to the battlefield on horseback. The horses we rode were provided by the Baron. The fact that so many spare horses were prepared shows that the Baron is a diligent man.
“Please, everyone, take care.”
Sent off by Mabel and the Baroness, we headed out to intercept the monsters alongside the Woodpole knights.
The Woodpole Barony lies along the highway continuing from the Waterford Earldom. The main highways of the western Albion Kingdom include this one, one starting from the Cardiff Earldom, and one starting from the Fairchild Margraviate; these three highways merge into one leading to the Royal Capital.
We raced down the highway with the knights.
We had decided to intercept them where the highway enters a valley.
Since we are overwhelmingly outnumbered, clashing on open ground would be disastrous.
Arriving at the valley, we could see a cloud of dust rising in the distance.
Even though they were still far away, we could hear the rumbling of the earth.
It’s the monster herd.
