Chapter 181.5: Interlude: Eddie in Action

(Perspective: Eddie, Will’s older brother. This episode takes place around the time Will obtained permission from our father, the Margrave, to go aid the Woodpole territory.)

“Good work, President.” “Good work, Edward-kun.” By the time I finished my Student Council duties after school, it was already dusk.

It’s already winter, so the days have gotten shorter. Popping the collar of my coat, I headed toward the Royal Academy dormitory. When I entered my room on the third floor, I heard a sound outside the window.

What could it be? I opened the curtains and found a pigeon in the box outside the window. “A carrier pigeon from home. Did an emergency occur?”

I hurriedly opened the window and took the letter wrapped around the pigeon’s leg. When I unfolded it, I saw Father’s handwriting.

The letter stated that a massive horde of monsters had appeared in the Waterford Earldom, causing heavy damage to the Earl’s knights and the Royal Knights sent as reinforcements, and that this massive army was heading toward the neighboring Woodpole Barony. “It will be difficult for the Woodpole Baron house to resist a massive monster horde alone.”

The letter wrote that since there was a risk of the Barony being destroyed at this rate, Will had headed there with his exploration companions from the undeveloped lands to buy time until reinforcements arrived. “To think Will and the others went as reinforcements…”

Come to think of it, Mabel of the Woodpole house became Will‘s apprentice and was working at the workshop. Will probably wants to save Mabel. That is just like the kindhearted Will.

Speaking of Will‘s companions, it would be his fiancée Letty, his sister Sophie, his top disciple Theodore, the Elf Chieftain Lucelina, and the guards Ophelia and Gilbert. Though many are young boys and girls, they can all be called strong.

But can they hold back a massive monster horde? It seems they plan to escape with Teleportation Magic if it gets dangerous, but it is possible they could miss their timing to escape and suffer deep wounds.

In truth, Father himself likely wants to lead the knights to the Woodpole territory, but only Ducal houses can deploy troops to other territories without His Majesty’s permission. And waiting for His Majesty’s permission would be too late.

Father’s letter didn’t specifically say he wanted me to do anything. But the fact that he informed me likely means he wants me to help Will and the others as much as I can.

I immediately headed to Luke‘s room on the same floor of the dorm. “Luke, do you have a moment?” “What is it, Eddie-senpai?” Fortunately, Luke was in his room.

When I explained the situation to Luke, he understood immediately. “That puts Lord William in danger.” “Yeah. I intend to go provide aid even if I’m alone, but I would be grateful if I could get your cooperation, Luke.”

“Eddie-senpai alone is a considerable force, but against a massive monster horde, numbers are needed. Let us take my family’s knight order.” “I’m sorry, Luke.”

“No, no, it is for Lord William, the benefactor who saved my Duchy from crisis. It is only natural that I do what I can.” Luke immediately sent a carrier pigeon to contact the Duchy.

Since the Ducal Knight Order often moves to save other territories from crises, they are ready to move immediately if something happens.
