- Chapter 202: Let's Make a Refrigerator
“Hello, Thomas.”
“Welcome, William-sama.”
The other day, we made butter from Kerry cow milk at the ranch in the undeveloped lands.
Today, I teleported to the ranch in the undeveloped lands intending to make cheese.
Since both Letty and Sophie were busy, the only ones who came with me this time are Baker-san and my guard, Gil.
Making cheese properly requires preparing coagulants and aging it.
So today, I’m thinking of making cottage cheese, which can be made easily.
Cottage cheese means “cheese of the cottage,” and in my original world, it apparently became popular in America in the 19th century.
It seems there are methods using coagulants, but it can also be made by adding acid to warmed milk.
First, we warm the milk.
Thomas lit a fire in the stove for us.
The fire is growing stronger.
“I think the heat is sufficient with this.”
“Thank you. Then, let’s put the pot on.”
We put the milk in the pot and heat it.
“I wonder if it’s about time.”
Small bubbles have appeared at the edge of the pot, so it should be fine.
Next is the acid. Adding vinegar is fine, but today we’re using lemon.
We add the lemon juice and stir lightly.
If left for a while, it separates into white curds and liquid (whey).
When those white curds are strained, the cottage cheese is complete.
Now, let’s all eat.
“It is very creamy.”
“The refreshing sourness is nice.”
“Let’s make some sweets.”
It seems Baker-san’s creative urge has swelled.
After thanking Thomas, we teleported back to the workshop in Northernford.
When we brought the cottage cheese to the cafe, Baker-san immediately began working.
I’m looking forward to seeing what she makes.
As I was reading a book in my room, Gil came to call me, saying, “Looks like it’s done.”
When I went to the cafe, a savory, sweet aroma was drifting through the air.
Could this be…
On a plate on the table, just as I had hoped, was a cheesecake. I loved it in my original world.
“Wow, it’s cheesecake.”
“Please, enjoy.”
The freshly baked cheesecake was incredibly delicious.
“Thank you, Baker-san. It’s wonderful.”
“Thank you. It is thanks to the ingredients.”
Baker-san is too humble.
But it’s true that the ingredients are important.
Butter cookies and baked goods can be stored at room temperature, but cheesecake cannot be preserved like that.
To begin with, butter also has to be used quickly.
If only we could store the ingredients at a low temperature.
Hmm? Store at a low temperature?
That’s it, let’s make a refrigerator.
Since I could attach an air conditioner to a carriage, I should be able to make a refrigerator too.
I went to the underground laboratory and lined up Water Magic Stones, iron, and rubber on the table.
The rubber is something the Levant Company recently procured from the south.
I visualize a refrigerator from my original world.
I want to preserve butter and cheese long-term without them spoiling, so that we can eat delicious sweets anytime.
Wishing for that, as I activated my Production Skill, magic power welled up from deep within my body.
When the warm light enveloping the materials faded, a smallish refrigerator had been created there.
I put it in storage and brought it to the cafe.
“Baker-san, I made something good.”
“William-sama, what kind of thing did you make?”
When I took the refrigerator out of storage and explained it, Baker-san’s eyes sparkled.
“This is wonderful! This is a revolutionary invention. Not just butter and cheese, but meat and fish can be preserved too.”
“Yeah. I hope it works well, though.”
I flip the switch and wait for a while.
When I opened the refrigerator, cold air drifted out. Alright, it’s a success.
When I told Theo and Oliver, both of them were surprised.
Furthermore, Oliver became enthusiastic.
“William-sama. Let’s definitely make this for the ranch in the undeveloped lands as well.”
“That’s fine, but is it to preserve butter and cheese at the ranch?”
“It’s not just that. We can appeal to customers that they can always eat highly perishable goods like milk, butter, cheese, and cheesecake right away.”
Oliver‘s eyes sparkled brightly.
“Let’s open a cafe with a refrigerator installed at the farm to attract tourists. This will definitely work!”
