- Chapter 34: Theo's Awakening
I successfully isolated Streptomycin, the specific medicine for Tuberculosis, but I had no means to mass-produce it. As I bordered on panic, Theo called out to me calmly.
“Master, at any rate, you found the medicine, didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I found the medicine. But I get the feeling the amount isn’t enough. I isolated the bacteria that creates the medicine, so I should be able to culture it, but I don’t have a Culture Medium, and I can’t think of how to multiply it.”
Ah, I wonder if this explanation gets across? Concepts like “culturing” and “culture medium” probably don’t exist in this world.
“So, it is difficult to multiply the living creatures called bacteria that create the medicine. In that case, let us think in the direction of multiplying the medicine itself. Production Skills can create what one visualizes, and since the completed medicine is right here, I will try to see if I can create the same thing using my skill.”
As expected of Theo; he understands even with my inadequate explanation. Besides, Theo was good at creating duplicates of things I produced.
“Theo, it would really help if you could create the same thing as this medicine. This one that looks like dust is Streptomycin. It is the medicine that should work for Mother‘s illness.”
“It has a name with a mysterious ring to it. I just need to increase this, right?”
“Yeah. But Theo, what materials are you going to use?”
“Soil.”
“Eh, soil?”
“I am a Dwarf, so when I am in trouble, I rely on the soil.”
Theo placed some of the soil lying around near him, closed his eyes, and concentrated. No, that soil doesn’t contain Streptomycin. Still, that is amazing concentration.
At that moment, Theo‘s body was enveloped in a mysterious, divine light. His Production Skill activated, his fingertips glowed, and an intricate Magic Circle floated above his palm. Then, the soil became enveloped in a warm light.
When the light faded, a decent amount of powder had been created. When I used Appraisal, it read “Streptomycin (Specific Medicine for Tuberculosis).”
“That’s amazing, Theo. You properly made the exact same thing!”
“Is that so? That is good.”
“Now, if I administer this to Mother… Umm, surely it should be an intramuscular injection.”
Just as I thought that, I realized that Syringes do not exist in this world. Darn it, if it doesn’t exist, I’ll just make one.
I looked around, and a Silver Candlestick caught my eye. If I recall correctly, the world’s first Syringe was made of silver. I activated my Production Skill on the Candlestick and created a Silver Syringe.
Then, I dissolved the Streptomycin Theo had multiplied in water and filled the Syringe.
“Alright, preparations are complete.”
Theo and I flew out of the Workshop and ran toward the mansion where Mother was.
Around that time, in the Elves’ Hidden Village, a change occurred in the Savior’s Stone Slab.
“Oh, the Savior’s Stone Slab is glowing!”
Text was emerging in the blank spaces of the Stone Slab.
It was written in Ancient Elven, so few could read it, but the Elder was able to.
“Hmm. It says: ‘One is The Blacksmith. One of the Old Blood. Though he is a Blacksmith, what supports the Savior is not the art of smithing, but the talent of creation.'”
Lucelina also arrived there.
“Grandmother, I felt like something was glowing?”
“Oh, is that you, Luna? It seems one of the Apostles, ‘The Blacksmith,’ has awakened. Perhaps he awakened and aided the Savior. The text appeared on the Stone Slab saying: ‘Supporting the Savior not with the art of smithing, but with the talent of creation.'”
“Supporting not with the art of smithing, but with the talent of creation? Couldn’t that be about Theo?”
“Surely that is the case. However, ‘One of the Old Blood‘… It seems Theodore was an Elder Dwarf. No wonder that child looks different from other Dwarves. He was likely born as a throwback to his ancestors.”
