Chapter 35: Mother and Child

I rushed into Mother’s room with Theo, holding the Streptomycin we had just made.

“Oh my, Will-chan. What is the matter?”

Mother was leaning against a cushion on the bed. Even though she was gaunt from the illness, she maintained her usual calm atmosphere.

“Mother, the medicine is finally ready. Please let me inject you.”

“Inject? I wonder what that means?”

That’s right. The concept of Injection doesn’t even exist in this world yet.

“What is that sharp object, Lord William?”

The maids looked wary upon seeing the needle of the Silver Syringe I was holding. Shoot, how should I explain this?

“I do not know what it is, but Will-chan made it with all his might for me, right? I believe it is something good.”

At Mother’s words, the maids relaxed their tension.

“An Injection means putting medicine into the body using this tool called a Syringe.”

I had a maid prop up Mother’s weakened body.

“I am sorry, Mother. I think it will prick a little when I inject it.”

“I understand. It is okay.”

I inserted the Silver Syringe into Mother’s arm and pushed in the Streptomycin. With this, I have done what I could. Once the relief hit me, my consciousness faded away.

When I woke up, I was in the bed in my own room. Did someone carry me? Did the medicine work? When I hurriedly visited Mother’s room, Mother was sitting up in bed.

I feel like her complexion is better than yesterday, though it might just be my imagination.

“Welcome, Will-chan. I seem to be feeling good today.”

When I fearfully used Appraisal… it had become Tuberculosis (Mild).

Ah, the medicine worked.

“Thank goodness, it went from severe to mild. With this, Mother’s illness can be cured.”

Hearing my words, the maids raised a cheer.

I slumped down to my knees on the spot. Overcome with relief, tears spilled out.

“Will-chan, thank you for making the medicine. You really worked hard.”

Mother reached out her thin hand and wiped away my tears.

“Thank you. With this, I can watch over your growth.”

To think about her children instead of herself even at a time like this; it is just like my kind Mother.

When I left Mother’s room, Theo was in the hallway. Did he refrain from entering the room out of courtesy?

“Theo, Mother’s illness went from severe to mild. The medicine we made worked!”

“Is that so? That is good. Truly.”

Theo’s eyes also welled up.

“This is thanks to you too, Theo. Really, thank you.”

Then I went to Sophie’s room and told her that Mother was recovering; my younger sister shed large drops of tears from joy and relief.

“Ah, Mother. Thank goodness. Ah, God.”

As I was rubbing the sobbing Sophie’s back, Mabel arrived. When I explained the situation, Mabel was also happy and hugged Sophie.

Then, I visited the Office and reported to Father.

“Father, Mother’s illness went from severe to mild! The medicine Theo and I made worked.”

“Is that true?”

Father asked in an unusually strong tone.

“I confirmed it with Appraisal Magic, so I think there is no mistake.”

“I see… Thank you Will, for saving Mother. Really, thank you.”

Father’s eyes also welled up with tears.

“No matter how much I train my Swordsmanship Skill, I cannot cure illness. I was frustrated at myself for being unable to do anything. Will, Production Skill is truly amazing.”

I have never been more glad to have obtained a Production Skill than I am today.
