- Chapter 36: Consulting the Elven Elder
I am glad I could save Mother. I have absolutely no regrets about what I did to achieve that. Neither finding Streptomycin, the specific medicine for Tuberculosis, nor creating the Syringe.
However, neither of those things could be conceived using the knowledge of this world. Even though I said I heard from the Dwarves that there was a hint in the soil, how am I supposed to explain that microbes inside the soil create medicine?
I can’t think of an explanation for the Syringe either. I was at a loss as to how to tell the people around me. So, I decided to consult with the people who know I came from another world, and visited the Elder at the Elves’ Hidden Village.
Perhaps sensing my atmosphere of not wanting others to hear, she arranged for us to speak with just the Elder and Lucelina.
“Elder-san, I apologize for intruding so suddenly. I have something I wish to consult you about.”
“Savior-sama, it is good that you came. I also have something to speak to you about.”
“From you as well, Elder-san?”
“Yes. Which story shall we discuss first?”
“Could you please let me hear your story first?”
“Understood. Actually, among the Apostles inscribed on the Savior’s Stone Slab, it seems The Blacksmith was the first to awaken. The text that appeared on the Stone Slab read: ‘One of the Old Blood. Though he is a Blacksmith, what supports the Savior is not the art of smithing, but the talent of creation.'”
“A Blacksmith who supports me with the talent of creation. Could that be about Theo?”
“Yes, surely it is. Dwarves are all Blacksmiths, but that child seems to be poor at smithing. Did he help you with his talent for creation recently?”
“Yes, when I isolated the medicine for my mother, I mentioned there was no way to increase the quantity. Theo then used soil as a material and multiplied the medicine.”
“I see, he must have awakened at that moment. Could you please bring Theodore next time? I think it would be better to talk about the Savior and the Apostles.”
“Understood.”
So when Theo glowed, he was awakening as an Apostle. Because Theo was there this time, I was able to save Mother. I am truly grateful.
The Elder previously said there must be a meaning to why the World Tree called me at this timing. I feel that because I touched the World Tree and the Stone Slab appeared, causing Theo to awaken, we were able to replicate the medicine and save Mother. I am grateful to the World Tree as well.
“So, what is it that Savior-sama wished to consult about?”
“Yes. This time, I used knowledge from my original world to isolate the medicine for Tuberculosis and used a medical tool called a Syringe. I think both are difficult to conceive based on the knowledge of this world.”
I explained about the Streptomycin made by Actinomycetes and the Syringe used to put it into the patient’s body.
“Ooh, you created medicine effective against this infectious disease and the necessary tools? It is wonderful that you created things to prevent a disease that steals many lives and brings much sorrow. However, it is true that those of this world would not think of such things.”
“So, I am troubled regarding how I should explain this to the people around me. How did past reincarnators explain their knowledge of another world to those around them?”
“It seems many of the Heroes and Sages who descended in the past boasted that they possessed knowledge from another world.”
“Is that so? I just want to relax and make things in the Frontier. I don’t think about bragging.”
“Fufu, Lord William truly has a good personality. Let’s see… it seems that among the Saviors, there were those who hid their true identity and explained that the knowledge from the outside world was a Divine Revelation from the Gods.”
“A Divine Revelation?”
“Yes. Faith in the Gods is strong in this world, so there is a tendency to attribute mysterious things to the Gods.”
“I see. Then I will explain it that way too.”
“Yes, I think that would be best. We shall also corroborate your story.”
The next day, I went to the Elves’ Hidden Village again, this time with Theo. It seems the Elven Elder and Theo were already acquainted.
“What we are about to discuss is not content that should be spoken to others, so let us go to a special place.”
After telling Theo that, the Elder chanted a spell in front of the large tree.
“This is… the entrance to the Elves’ Sacred Place, isn’t it? Is it alright for me to enter too?”
“Yes, the current you has the qualification to enter.”
We passed through the hollow of the large tree and emerged into the World Tree‘s flower garden.
“Is this tree, perhaps, the World Tree?”
“That is correct. And this is the Savior’s Stone Slab that appeared from the World Tree.”
The Elder explained to Theo about the Savior and the Apostles.
“So that was it. Master is the Savior, and I am one of his Apostles.”
“Yes, you are the first Apostle to awaken.”
“Even though I am a Dwarf, I was troubled by my lack of skill in smithing, but that must have been the price for having the talent of creation. I also wondered why my appearance was different from other Dwarves, but is it because I am a throwback to the Elder Dwarves? There was a meaning to why I am different from other Dwarves in various ways. I wanted to tell my parents too.”
Theo seemed deeply moved.
“Theo, I am sorry for keeping silent until now about being reincarnated from another world.”
“No, if you suddenly said you were reincarnated, people would just be surprised. Besides, if it becomes known that you are the Savior, you won’t be able to stay a normal child anymore. I understand well why Master didn’t tell those around you.”
Thank you. Hearing you say that makes me feel at ease. Conversely, Theo asked me to keep silent about him being an Elder Dwarf. Apparently, if the Dwarves find out, they will make him the Chieftain.
“I want to train as Master’s apprentice for a while longer.”
“I am grateful to have Theo supporting me nearby, but are you sure?”
“I am still a child, too. My uncle will serve as Chieftain for a while.”
“That is right. Both of you are still children. I do not think you need to force yourselves to rush and reveal your true identities.”
