Chapter 54: Let's Relax
The birthday party completely exhausted me. I was bad at talking to many people even in my original world. I had been busy all the time before my birthday too, so I’m going to take it easy for a while. I shouldn’t overwork myself.
The Workshop is fine without me because everyone acts autonomously. Oliver‘s support on the administrative side is a huge factor. Soap production is also going smoothly, and the colorful transparent Soaps Mabel and the others make seem to be selling like hotcakes, despite being a bit expensive.
I try to prevent the Workshop‘s work from increasing too much. For the things created at the Workshop, I teach the creation methods to the town’s Workshops as much as possible and leave the rest to them. Lately, I’ve barely made any Furniture or Bags. This is partly to keep the Workshop from becoming a Black Workplace (exploitative work environment) and partly to increase the work for the town’s craftsmen.
Starting today, I will try not to schedule any errands. After lunch, I went back to my room and took a nap. Sleeping during the bright daytime hours feels like a fresh experience.
Then, I strolled around the Market. “One grilled sausage, a Bratwurst.” “Here you go.” The shopkeeper handed me the sausage, using a small, firm Bread as a handle. It’s impolite, but walking around while eating street food gives a sense of liberation.
On sunny days, I intrude on the Elven Forest and borrow a Hammock. I take new books I bought at the Northernford Bookstore or books I ordered through the Levant Trading Company. Lying in a Hammock reading a book in the quiet Elven Forest is a blissful time.
On days off, I also went out to play with everyone from the Workshop. Since many people don’t like to rest, we close the Workshop one day a week and take it as a holiday. I think two days off a week would be better, but in this world, just having regular holidays makes it seem like a White Workplace (good work environment).
Since manufacturing is also my hobby, Theo and I sometimes challenge ourselves with new things. Recently, we experimented with Granted Leather.
“If we are Granting the Leather, does it have to be Armor?”
“You mean Granting Strike Resistance or Thrust Resistance to Leather Goods other than Armor?”
“Yeah. For example, I thought it would be good if Mother or Sophie had protective Leather Clothes when going out, even if they aren’t Armor.”
“I see, even men don’t always wear Armor.”
We tried a few times, but it didn’t go well.
“Hmm, maybe it’s because it’s hard to visualize clothes with resistance.”
“Master, how about first creating Leather with resistance, and then processing it?”
“I see, let’s try that.”
I prepared the Sea of Trees Deer Leather and concentrated, focusing on the two resistances. Magic Power gathered at my fingertips, and a Magic Circle floated above my palm. It seemed I was able to activate Production Skill. When the warm light faded, “Tough Leather: Strike Resistance (Granted), Thrust Resistance (Granted)” was created.
Next, when I made clothes using the Granted Leather, it worked this time. It seems that if I Grant the material beforehand, I can make clothes with the resistance property without visualizing the clothes’ resistance.
I made a Half Coat and then a Long Coat. I wonder if it works for smaller items too. I also tried making Leather Boots.
“Next would be something to cover the head.”
“That’s right.”
I decided to make a Leather Hat. What kind of design would be good? After discussing various ideas with Theo, I made a men’s hat like a Hunting Cap and a women’s Beret.
I wear the Leather Clothes with the Granted properties myself. What I like recently is the “Leather Half Coat: Strike Resistance (Granted), Thrust Resistance (Granted).” I think the dark brown Leather Half Coat has a reasonably stylish design as Town Wear.
I’m not knowledgeable about clothing design, so I consulted Oliver, had him draw an illustration, and created the coat by visualizing the drawing. In addition to that, wearing Granted Leather Boots and a Granted Leather Hunting Cap provides more defense than ordinary iron Armor.
I made Leather Long Coats with two resistances for Father and Mother, and a Half Coat for my sister. All the designs were done by Oliver. I also sent one to Brother in Winchester and presented some to the Royal Family.
As a result of Father reporting and consulting with His Majesty, it was decided not to circulate the Leather Armor with two resistances too widely. It seems there is a risk of provoking foreign countries. I never thought it would become such a serious matter.
For now, the Leather Armor seems to be stored in the Royal Knight Order‘s warehouse. But the Leather Clothes are apparently being used by the Royal Family people in their daily lives. Her Highness the Princess‘s letter mentioned this.
I receive letters quite frequently from Her Highness Flora. She sometimes asks for book recommendations, and I introduce the books I enjoyed reading. I feel like I could become a good friend to Her Highness.
