Chapter 56: Trimagia
(The narrator is Sophie until the break.)
Lately, my Brother Will has been busy—being summoned to Winchester and building the new Workshop—and I haven’t had much of a chance to talk to him properly. My Brother‘s Workshop has helped many people by creating medicine and Syringes to treat the terrifying Tuberculosis, as well as Soap for prevention.
Since I am the Lord‘s daughter, I am happy and proud that my Brother is active for the people of the territory. So, while I understand that my Brother being busy is unavoidable, I also feel a sense of loneliness.
My friend Mabel is enthusiastic, saying she has become the manager of transparent Soap making. The transparent Soap with Rose and Lavender inside is wonderful. It has become popular among the girls in Northernford. I am happy about that as her friend.
However, Mabel has recently appeared and is active in my Brother‘s Workshop, so why is there no role for me, his sister? Wait, what am I saying? Putting that aside, my Brother has finally been relaxing recently, so it wouldn’t hurt if I asked for a little of his time, would it?
The Elves seem to be living in seclusion, having created a Hidden Village in the forest, but my Brother seems to visit often. They are not only beautiful in appearance, but their way of life is also veiled in mystery, making the Elves a mysterious race.
I’ve long wanted to meet the Elves if possible. I also want to go out with my Brother, so I took the plunge and asked if he could take me to the forest where the Elves live.
(The narrator is Will.)
My sister, Sophia, asked if she could go to the Elven Forest. Since this is a request from my sister, who is always a good girl and rarely asks for anything, I wanted to grant it if possible. When I asked the Elder and Lucelina, they happily agreed.
I headed to the outskirts of Northernford with my sister.
“I am happy to go out with Brother again after so long.”
“Come to think of it, we haven’t gone out together, have we?”
Seeing Sophie‘s happy face, I regretted that I should have set aside more time for my sister, even if I was busy.
When we arrived at our destination, Sophie looked puzzled.
“Brother, is this the Elven Forest?”
“Yes. It looks like an ordinary forest, and there is no sign of people, but the Elves live here.”
“Actually, a Magic called the ‘Forest of Illusions‘ has been cast so people can’t enter, and because of that, you can’t sense what’s inside from the outside.”
“Oh my, is that so? Come to think of it, bad humans sometimes kidnap Elves. It is regrettable that such cruel people exist.”
After lamenting for a while, Sophie started to worry.
“By the way, the Elves avoid contact with humans, so is it really alright for me to impose upon them?”
“It’s fine. I got their permission beforehand, and they said they welcome you.”
“That’s a relief.”
When I entered the forest with Sophie, we were able to proceed inside without getting lost, as usual. I don’t quite understand the mechanism, but it seems Sophie was also excluded from the effect of the ‘Forest of Illusions‘. Eventually, the Elves’ Hidden Village came into view.
“Wow, their houses are on top of the trees!”
Sophie‘s eyes widened at the sight of the Treehouses. And when she saw the Elves, she was surprised again, saying, “They really are beautiful.” I have gotten quite used to it, but there are certainly many surprising things here.
As we entered the village, several Elves welcomed us.
“Hello, young lady. Welcome.”
“How do you do? I am Sophia Fairchild. I apologize for intruding suddenly today.”
Sophie bowed politely.
“My, you are small but so polite. Lord William‘s sister is always welcome.”
The Elves praised Sophie‘s demeanor. Even though she is small, Sophie is a member of the Fairchild House. She would never act pompously or impolitely toward anyone. By the way, I had asked the Elves not to call me the Savior today.
“Brother, the Elves really trust you.”
“I am grateful for that.”
I think that’s an excessive amount of trust for me. Even though I’m called the Savior, I don’t feel like I’m such a great existence. I have been solidifying my resolve in my own way recently, though.
After that, Sophie enjoyed her time, being shown the Elves’ Treehouses and borrowing a Hammock. It’s been a while since I’ve seen my sister this excited. I’m glad I brought her to the Elven village.
While I was thinking that, the Elder and Lucelina came over. I had told them not to bother showing their faces if they were busy.
“These are Lucelina-san, the Chieftain, and the Elder-san.”
“How do you do? I am Sophia Fairchild.”
“Welcome. I am Lucelina, the Chieftain of the Elves. How do you find the Elven village?”
Lucelina smiled at Sophie.
“Yes, it is very enjoyable.”
The Elder is… Huh, he looks serious?
“Sophia-san, you have been blessed with the Magic Skill, but what is your aptitude for Elemental Magic?”
“Yes, I was told I can use Water Elemental Magic. I am still inexperienced, but I am practicing as taught by my teacher.”
“Did your teacher only tell you about Water Elemental Magic?”
“Yes, only that. Um, is there a problem?”
“No, there is nothing wrong with you. However, there seems to be a slight problem with your Magic Teacher. Perhaps it cannot be helped, as it is rare among humans.”
What could he mean?
As I wondered, the Elder turned back to me.
“Lord William, your sister is a Trimagia; she can use Fire and Wind Elemental Magic as well as Water Elemental Magic.”
“What! A Trimagia?”
Both Sophie and I were surprised. Among Elves, it seems there are occasionally those with two or three elements, but humans usually only have one element. A Trimagia with three elements is a rarity—perhaps one in a generation.
I never knew Sophie had such Magic talent.
“It might be difficult to develop Sophia-san’s Magic among humans. Fortunately, I can use all Elemental Magic, so if you wish, shall I teach her?”
What! The Elder can use all five Elemental Magic types: Fire, Water, Wind, Wood, and Earth? And he is offering to become Sophie‘s teacher?
“May I ask you to do that?”
“Yes, please leave it to me.”
Sophie, who was wide-eyed, also bowed and said, “Thank you very much.” Bringing Sophie to the Elven Forest resulted in an unexpected benefit.
