- Chapter 76: A Letter from His Majesty
The wheat harvest was in full swing, and the Summer Solstice Festival was approaching. Startling news arrived in the midst of this. “Actually, a letter from His Majesty arrived yesterday.” Father broached the subject at the breakfast table.
“According to the letter, Her Highness Flora will attend this year’s Summer Solstice Festival as an envoy from the Royal Family. It seems it is to honor our family’s achievements in preventing a poor harvest due to drought and to celebrate the bountiful harvest together.” “My goodness, to think the Princess is coming to the West.” “That is amazing! This is also thanks to your new wheat, Brother.”
The city of Northernford boiled over with excitement at the news of the Princess’s visit. It seems it has been quite a long time since a member of the Royal Family visited the West. Oliver, saying “This is a perfect PR opportunity. If Her Highness wears Will & Fellows goods…”, apparently sent workshop goods to Her Highness immediately.
A letter arrived for me from Her Highness as well, in which she wrote, “Father also praises William-san’s achievements as significant. With this, I can finally meet you, William-san.” I thought I wouldn’t have the chance to meet Her Highness for a while. Since so much has happened, it feels like a long time ago, but it has only been about three months since I first met Her Highness in March of this year.
While everyone was rejoicing at Her Highness’s visit, Mother wore a subtle expression. “I welcome Her Highness Flora‘s visit, but is that enough?” After pondering for a while, Mother stood up abruptly and declared. “Let’s invite Letty-chan to this year’s Summer Solstice Festival too! I think it will be more lively if Letty-chan is there, not just Her Highness. Dear, is that alright with you?” Father answered with a wry smile, “You may proceed with the Summer Solstice Festival however you see fit, Mary.”
Returning to the workshop, I tried various enchantments on Mithril materials. We will sell Mithril through the Levant Trading Company, but Father has also asked me to make equipment for the Fairchild Family Knights. In addition to that, there is also the Mithril entrusted to me by the Elves.
Actually, when I gave the Elves equipment made from iron materials enchanted with two properties, it seems they proceeded with exploring the Middle Layer of the Sea of Trees as part of their training. And I heard they found a Mithril vein different from the one we found. Since the Sea of Trees is no one’s territory, materials and resources belong to the discoverer.
For weapon materials, in addition to Piercing Enhancement and Cutting Enhancement, I added Durability Enhancement just like with Letty‘s sword. Furthermore, I added Impact Enhancement. Since Letty had a Magic Sword, I added Magic Enhancement, but spears and swords, not just axes, are sometimes used to strike over armor.
Next, I performed enchantments for armor materials. In addition to the Cutting Resistance, Piercing Resistance, and Impact Resistance I have enchanted before, I newly added Magic Resistance. I thought I would struggle more, but perhaps because I had the experience of adding Magic Enhancement to Letty‘s sword, the enchantment of Magic Resistance went smoothly.
Mithril materials with four properties attached will likely become good weapons and armor. Since Letty‘s sword was a Magic Sword, Theo and I forged it, but we will ask the Dwarf blacksmiths to forge regular swords and spears. Previously, when I did two enchantments, I made the armor myself, but this time I will commission the Dwarves to make the armor as well. The basic principle of the workshop is to produce things that others cannot. Besides, since they called the Fairchild family a friend of the Dwarves, there is no worry about the Dwarves knowing confidential information.
I will give the Elves Mithril equipment enchanted with four properties. Especially for those exploring Crosspoint in the undeveloped lands, I want to give them the best equipment I can. However, within the Kingdom, how far should I go in distributing this equipment to anyone other than the Fairchild Family Knights? Considering the issues that arose when I enchanted leather with two properties, perhaps it is better not to let Mithril with four properties leave the territory.
As a result of consulting with Father, we decided to consult with His Majesty. “It is better not to keep secrets from His Majesty, so I will report it, but he will surely say not to let it outside.” And just as Father read, a reply came from His Majesty saying not to sell or gift it outside the Margrave’s territory.
“Hahaha, His Majesty seems to be holding his head in his hands because Will creates various things so rapidly. No, of course, there is no need to worry. There is no doubt Will is doing good deeds. Oh, it seems there is something else written.” Father, who had been laughing, tightened his expression. “It says there are currently no mages in the Kingdom who can enchant four properties. This achievement will be kept secret for a while, but it says when it is eventually made public, you will be promoted from Baron to Viscount.” Eh? Even though I haven’t reached adulthood yet, the rank I’m scheduled to receive keeps going up.
