- Chapter 8: Building House for Dwarves
“What did you say? You’re going to build houses for us?” I had visited the Dwarves and proposed that they settle on this land, offering to build their houses with the Production Skill, which surprised them.
“We, too, are skilled in crafting, but we cannot build houses so quickly. We find it hard to believe, begging your pardon, that you, a child of the Human race, can do such a thing.“
Well, it’s not something you can believe right away. So, deeds speak louder than words. I decided to take them to the outskirts of the town and build a house. “I’m sure William can do it.” Before I left the house, Teacher Erica had encouraged me, so I was determined to do my best.
First, when I took out the wooden materials and stone materials I brought with my Storage Magic, the Dwarves were astonished. “Whoa! That’s incredible Storage Magic! Can it hold that much?” Yes, I’ve got their attention. Then, I concentrated, picturing the blueprints for the log house that Mister Craft had drawn for me.
However, unlike a chair or a bag, this required a long period of concentration. When I activated the Production Skill, magic power focused at my fingertips and began to glow, and a magic circle floated over my palm. As I maintained this concentrated state, a large, warm light enveloped the materials. “Ooh, such a big light! That’s a lot of magic power.“
Eventually, the light vanished, and a single-story log house appeared there. “What! A house built in such a short time!” “He’s still a child, yet he has amazing talent!” The Dwarves buzzed with excitement.
I opened the log house door and showed them the interior. There was a bedroom, a toilet, and a washbasin area, and the living room and kitchen were a combined living-dining area. And in the center of the living room was a stone fireplace and a chimney.
“That’s a good, warm-looking house. I apologize for not believing your word.” “I’m sorry for doubting you. We certainly would like you to build our houses.” The Dwarves successively apologized and requested the house-building. To bow their heads to me, a child, they must be genuinely honest people.
Since the Margraviate is vast, there is plenty of unoccupied land. I obtained Father‘s approval and had the Dwarves choose where they wanted to live. They chose an area a little ways from the domain capital of Northernford, situated between a mountain and a river. Being near the river is essential because water is indispensable for blacksmithing. And since their homeland was a mountain region, they feel calmer when a mountain is nearby.
I brought the materials stored by magic to the location the Dwarves requested. Mister Craft‘s nephew, Mr. Carpenter, came along, as he seemed interested in watching me build the houses. “Now, how should we arrange the houses?”
“If possible, we would be grateful if you could create a square in the center and build the houses surrounding it.”
“Understood.”
“We are truly grateful that you build houses for us and listen to all our requests.”
“We all help each other when we are in need. Besides, if all of you Dwarves settle here and engage in blacksmithing and finework, our territory will surely develop.”
“Ooh, to be so kind and also think about the territory. You are clever too.”
“Leave the blacksmithing and finework to us.”
With the Dwarves watching with anticipation, I continued building the houses. It’s necessary to maintain concentration until a house is completed, so I rested after building one. I repeated this process of building when I felt I could concentrate again. It certainly wasn’t easy, but the Production Skill is amazing for allowing me to build multiple houses a day.
“What a superior Skill!”
“We had confidence in our crafting, but Lord William is on a different level.” The Dwarves were impressed.
“Lord William is amazing! I never imagined houses could be built like this with the Production Skill.” Mr. Carpenter‘s eyes were wide with surprise too. I felt tired after building the sixth house, so I stopped the day’s work without pushing myself.
Teacher Erica told me never to overdo it, as a loss of concentration leads to failed creations, and completely running out of magic power can cause one to collapse. The next morning, after breakfast, I went to the site again to build houses.
I repeated this for five days, building a total of thirty houses. “Phew, this is the last one.”
“Ohh!” The Dwarves cheered.
“Now everyone can live here!”
“Ah, finally a place of peace.” Some cried, and others knelt and prayed to God.
Building houses for the Dwarves was more tiring than I expected, so I think I’ll take it easy for a while. I haven’t pushed myself this hard since coming to this world. Although my memory is vague, I feel like I was chased by quotas and deadlines in my previous life. I refuse to work frantically even after being reincarnated into another world. That is one thing I won’t compromise on.
But I was happy that the Dwarves were so delighted. Both Father and Brother Edward praised me highly. Yes, the Production Skill is a good thing.
