- Chapter 209: Let's Attract Tourists ~ A Flood of Customers
The week after His Majesty the King’s visit, the ones we welcomed to New Wrexham were Her Highness the Queen and His Highness the Prince.
I hadn’t had many opportunities to interact closely with them before, but Francois-san, my soon-to-be sister-in-law, acted as an intermediary.
The fact that members of the Royal Family visited New Wrexham immediately became known to the nobles, despite it being incognito.
In that regard, the nobles’ information network is truly amazing.
Requests to visit New Wrexham came pouring in one after another from the nobles.
Among them were the nobles of the Royal Capital who had completely flipped their attitudes upon hearing that I would be obtaining the undeveloped lands as my territory.
You could say they are quick to adapt, or rather, incredibly thick-skinned.
When I grumbled about it, Letty and Flora smiled wryly, saying, “That’s just how the nobles of the Royal Capital are.”
Well, I suppose it’s a matter of “whoever comes is welcome.”
With many nobles coming, ordinary people will also think about visiting, which will lead to the development of the undeveloped lands.
However, I will be setting the order in which they are allowed to visit.
I decided to have the nobles I already have relationships with come first.
“It has been a while, Lord William.”
“It’s been a long time, Lord Lucas.”
The first to visit was Lucas Sheffield, the young lord of the North.
The ones who should be invited next after the Royal Family would naturally be the Ducal families.
Fortunately, young Lord Luke is good friends with my older brother, and he is on my side thanks to my development of pomme de terre and cold-resistant wheat.
The young Lord told me he would travel from the Royal Capital by carriage, but feeling bad about that, I went to pick him up with Teleportation Magic.
“Oh, so this is Teleportation Magic. It truly is instantaneous.”
To not even stagger during his first time experiencing Teleportation Magic—as expected of the young Lord.
Brother Eddie often praises him too, saying, “Luke trains well.”
“A sewer system and wide roads. As expected of a town built by Lord William, it’s superior to traditional towns. I’ll use it as a reference for my territory as well.”
The young Lord was impressed by New Wrexham‘s town planning.
“The carriage with the expanded interior and the cafe are both novel. I’m sure many from my territory will come for sightseeing too. Also, I’ll recruit immigrants for you.”
When I told him about making up for the labor shortage with Golems, the young Lord promised his cooperation in increasing the number of immigrants. I am truly grateful.
Next, I had Viscount Woodpole come.
By the way, I had received a letter from Duke Siltikheim of the South to the effect of, “Since my daughter was allowed to visit the town, I will come to see it at a leisurely pace later.”
“It has been a long time, William-sama. Thank you very much for your great help the other day.”
“Welcome, Viscount Woodpole.”
Mabel occasionally tells me about the state of the Woodpole territory.
Thanks to the efforts of Theo, the Dwarves, and the workshop craftsmen, it seems the reconstruction of the Woodpole territory is progressing rapidly.
“I felt great potential in the undeveloped lands. My territory is still in the middle of reconstruction, but I will cooperate as much as possible with the development of this land.”
“I am happy just to hear those words.”
Even though the Woodpole Viscount territory must need manpower itself, the Viscount told me he would call for people to immigrate to the undeveloped lands.
According to Mabel, some of the craftsmen who came to the workshop from the Woodpole territory to make soap are apparently requesting a transfer to the workshop in the undeveloped lands.
I’m grateful, but I conveyed to them that they really didn’t need to push themselves.
Aside from the nobles, many merchants also came to the first town built in the undeveloped lands.
“It has been a while, William-sama.”
“It truly has been a long time, Chairman Alex. Thank you for coming.”
I was happy to see Chairman Alex of the Levant Company after such a long time.
“Has Oliver been of use to you?”
“Pops, don’t say unnecessary things.”
They seem to be as close a father and son as ever.
“Ahaha, the development of the undeveloped lands is unthinkable without Oliver.”
“I am grateful to have you say so.”
Oliver looked away, seemingly embarrassed.
I don’t usually see this side of him. I guess he still reverts to being a kid in front of his father.
Chairman Alex told me he would open a branch in New Wrexham.
It’s unprecedented for a large trading company to open a branch in a newly built town, so I’m thankful.
It seems Oliver will hold the post of branch manager concurrently once again.
They introduced staff for the cafe, and the Levant Company has truly been a huge help.
In return, I prioritize selling them the herbs and plastic items found in the undeveloped lands.
I want us to continue coexisting and prospering together.
Besides the Levant Company, there were merchants wanting to open hotels banking on the tourists to New Wrexham, and merchants wanting to open restaurants.
It’s deeply appreciated that merchants have high expectations for the future of the undeveloped lands.
And then, the day arrived for the carriage of the first undeveloped lands tour to pull in.
Many tourists poured out of the carriage that arrived at the terminal.
“That was an amazing carriage. I can’t believe the inside was so spacious.”
“There’s a cafe with large glass windows. It looks cool.”
“I wonder what that milk-can-like building over there is?”
The lively tourists headed out into the town.
I guess the initial hook worked well.
A little later, when I went to the ranch, tourists were walking over from the town.
“Whoa, so this is the rumored Golem. It’s ridiculously cute.”
It seems Wood Golems are popular after all.
Returning to the town, the customers coming out of the cafe were in high spirits.
“Freshly made butter is this delicious, huh. That refrigerator is amazing.”
“The cheesecake was also exquisite.”
“Plastic tableware is light and convenient. I heard they sell them at the shop, so let’s buy some to take home.”
I’m glad the cafe was well-received too.
Sales at the shop also seem strong, marking a very smooth start.
