Chapter 224: Elva's Worry
The three classmates, who were stiff at first, have gradually opened up to each other as we’ve met repeatedly for club activities.
We’ve started calling Elva “El,” Katarina “Kate,” and Colsen “Col” by their nicknames.
However, even though they’ve started calling Letty by a nickname, they still address Princess Flora as Flora-san and me as William-san.
Ah, only Col calls me William.
When I complained about that, Letty was exasperated with me.
“I told you, didn’t I? You should just give up and accept that you aren’t ‘normal’.”
“Apart from my family, Letty is the only one who talks to me without being self-conscious, after all.”
“Well, we are childhood friends, after all.”
Letty looked a little happy.
Regardless of that, as we became closer, we started opening up to each other little by little.
In El’s case, she was suffering from a complex about being bad at Water Magic.
“My brother is such an amazing mage, so why am I like this? Even though we share the same blood.”
“El, my brother is a master swordsman, but I’m completely hopeless with a sword.”
“By William-san’s brother, you mean Edward-san, right? Even Brother Luke says that his swordsmanship is beyond common sense.”
“Well, yeah. My brother’s skill is something absurd where he shoots blades of light from his sword, after all.”
“Will, you don’t have the right to call others ‘beyond common sense’.”
“That’s harsh, Letty.”
“Fufu, it’s unfortunately a fact that William-san’s Production Skill is outside the bounds of common sense.”
“Even Flora…”
“You three seem to get along so well. It’s wonderful.”
“I wonder about that.”
“Yes, it’s common for nobles to have multiple wives, but unfortunately, it’s rare for them to get along well.”
“That’s the same for merchants, too. When they become major merchants, they often have multiple wives.”
“Hmm. I see. My old man has only ever had eyes for my mom. Well, up until recently, he wasn’t a noble or rich, though.”
Col‘s parents were from a noble family, but since they weren’t the direct heirs, they had become commoners.
However, after the previous Earl Walterford died in battle along with his son, Col‘s family was suddenly tasked with establishing the Viscount house and succeeding the line as relatives.
“Col, your way of speaking isn’t very noble-like, either. Thanks to having you here, I don’t have to be as nervous. I’m truly grateful.”
“Are you complimenting me or insulting me?”
Fufu, regardless, there’s no doubt that Kate is grateful to Col.
I like Col‘s unpretentious way of speaking because it allows me to talk to him comfortably, too.
Even so, I can tell that Elva has been working incredibly hard at her magical training.
The fact that her power isn’t growing might mean she lacks talent.
However, there is one possibility.
“El, would you like to have an Elf look at your magic?”
“Eh? An Elf? I do hear that they are a race that excels at magic, but…”
“Yeah. My little sister rapidly increased her strength by receiving guidance from an Elf elder.”
“But, shouldn’t they dislike contact with humans? Oh, but wait, an Elf clan is cooperating with William-san, aren’t they?”
“They are a clan that has guarded the World Tree for the world for a long time. They are cooperating with me because I was recognized by the World Tree.”
“If anything, it feels like Will is working hard to be a Savior—which he isn’t used to—because he was requested to do so by the Elves.”
“Ahaha, that might be true. I’m not really cut out to be a Savior.”
“I’ve heard the circumstances from Brother Luke, but until recently, I never thought that the World Tree or a Savior actually existed.”
“That is true. The existence of a Savior was passed down through oral tradition in the Royal Family, but I never thought I would meet one in my lifetime.”
“The Savior appeared because the offensive of the darkness grew stronger, right? I’ve heard the story from when the previous head died in battle; apparently, a tremendous number of monsters surged toward them.”
“That’s right. According to the Elf elder, many people were sacrificed during the previous offensive of the darkness. I can’t fight because I’m not a hero or a sage, but I want to save as many people as I can.”
“That is a noble resolve. Brother Luke always praises how active you are, William-san.”
“Really? That makes me happy.”
“Yes, he talks about William-san so much that I’m troubled because he doesn’t pay attention to me, his younger sister.”
It seems El really loves her brother.
Well, even from my perspective as a man, young Lord Luke is cool—he truly feels like a noble prince.
Anyway, I decided to take El and the others to the Elf Forest once.
